Antibiotics for appendicitis
Treating uncomplicated appendicitis with antibiotics instead of surgery.
Key point
Non-operative management of acute uncomplicated appendicitis was associated with high long-term failure rates and significant risk of subsequent appendectomy.

More general surgery trends
All specialties →Robotic general surgery
Robot-assisted cholecystectomy, hernia repair and colorectal surgery.
Key point: Robotic-assisted surgery was associated with a modestly shorter hospital stay and similar complications, readmissions, and reoperations versus laparoscopy in obese colorectal cancer patients.
Prehabilitation
Exercise, nutrition and psychological preparation before surgery.
Neoadjuvant therapy in pancreatic cancer
Chemotherapy or chemoradiation before surgery for pancreatic cancer.
Key point: After induction chemotherapy, neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy is used for borderline tumours to increase chances of complete resection, though survival benefit has not been demonstrated.
ICG fluorescence-guided surgery
Indocyanine green imaging during surgery to assess perfusion and anatomy.
Key point: FIGS with ICG is recommended for detecting non-regional metastases, identifying primary cancers and GI cancer lymph nodes, and assessing esophageal and left-sided colorectal anastomosis quality.
Metabolic and bariatric surgery
Sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass and other surgery for obesity and metabolic disease.
Organ preservation in rectal cancer
Total neoadjuvant therapy and watch-and-wait approaches for rectal cancer.
Key point: A higher radiation boost dose was not significantly associated with achieving clinical complete response or durability of organ preservation after total neoadjuvant therapy.

PubDaily picks the ones that matter in your specialty and summarises them, about 10 minutes a week.
How these numbers are counted
PubMed query, searched in titles and abstracts by publication date:
appendicitis[tiab] AND (antibiotic*[tiab] OR "non-operative"[tiab] OR nonoperative[tiab])Trials: ClinicalTrials.gov studies first submitted in each 12-month window that match the same terms. A query can miss synonyms or catch unrelated papers, so treat counts as approximate.
